  • You don’t have to avoid carbs all together but you just should focus on the ones that don’t spike your sugar like whole grains. So go for something like Dave’s Killer bread instead of white bread or sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes. Quinoa is good because it also has protein.

  • I was diagnosed at 16 weeks with my first pregnancy and it was overwhelming. I did so much research because I didn’t want to do anything wrong. I took my fasting number first thing in the morning before eating. Would eat 2 pieces of Turkey bacon, 2 scrambled eggs with salsa, and Greek yogurt (vanilla or strawberry) which usually has very low sugar content, and a cup of coffee with 2 spoons of sugar. Sometimes I would do about a cup of fruit instead of yogurt or whole wheat zero sugar bread by natures own with peanut butter. Then 2 hours later I’d check my sugars and if they were good I would eat a snack. Usually snacks were cheese sticks and small amounts of fruit or half a protein bar (Luna peanut butter or lemon bars are good). Peanut butter toast works too if your numbers were good. Then a couple hours later I’d eat lunch. I could get away with a burger as long as there isn’t ketchup or other sauces with high sugar content. And chicken nuggets. Never fries because they are super carb heavy. Diet soda. If you can stomach cherry sodas I recommend these for diet drink because it hides the artificial sweetener taste!! Also diet Dr Pepper is fine and really close to the original. Then two hours later check again and see if my numbers are good. Eat another snack 😂 low salt nuts and more cheese or yogurt. Diary is your friend if you want to feel full. Occasionally if my numbers are really good I’d eat a bite size candy bar. They shouldn’t hurt if your numbers are down. Then two hours later eat dinner. I would eat protein plus pasta by barilla and it didn’t mess with my numbers. Lots of grilled meat and veggies seasoned well. I couldn’t do a lot of sauces because sugar is usually high. Also couldn’t do gravies because of the flour or corn starch to thicken it. Sweet potatoes and beans occasionally are okay in small amounts. Two hours and check sugars again. Then I’d eat another snack before bed because you need to let your sugars go back down before your fasting number. Walking after meals helps your numbers to drop faster so if you splurge on something a little heavier you should try move it off as much as you can. I know that one is hard with your pelvic floor issues. I hope some of this helps. It seems hard but it just takes some adjusting and seeing what works for you. Everyone is different! Good luck ❤️

  • you have to eat complex carbs like whole wheat flour, whole grain noodles, whole grain oatmeal, they release the energy slower so you stay filled for more time. Avoid refined carbohydrates like sugar or white flour.

  • 1. I am so happy you were able to get out of the house for some actual FUN! 2. I have Type 1 Diabetes(ya know, the kind you never get rid of, not from being overweight, just bad genes, and insulin dependent my entire life). By the end of my pregnancy I could not have barely any carbs because you become resistant to the insulin(yes, the insulin your body makes causing gestational diabetes, or the synthetic insulin I have to inject as a Type 1). I ate ALOT of stirfry with no rice, basically veggies and meat. A lot of cabbage, broccoli, carrots, etc. And basically protein for other meals. Eggs/breakfast meats for breakfast, lo carb toast with pb, berries occasionally bc they are the lowest carb fruit. Good luck girl!

  • You need carbs, there are good and bad carbs. My advise would be to go see a dietician each person needs different amounts of carbs and proteins and fats. I was assigned a dietician to educate me when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It was super helpful and informative. They will also tell you when to check your sugars and what your levels should be at that way you can adjust your diet as needed.

  • Hi Colleen, for a filling snack/meal, you could make a big pot of soup with lots of veggies/beans etc. Store in the fridge for a few days and take single portions from it when you're hungry. Heat in microwave. Quick & easy! Stovetop: you could add a beaten egg (or more) to the hot soup, stirring in one direction (think Egg Drop Soup) until egg curdles. Delish! Can I get a thumbs up? 😊

  • Salmon and asparagus. Preheat oven to 400° put salmon in for 15min and boom done. Steam Asparagus for 10min on stove. Avacado toast is another winner.

  • Beans! Make a 3 bean salad, minus the sugar, also cucumbers are very filling. Search smashed cucumbers on tick tok. So good! A little bit of prep but it’s quick and delicious! Also, freezer to crockpot meals are super easy to prep and it’s basically just marinating your chicken ahead of time. Grab your fav salad dressings and just dump them in a freezer bag with some chicken. Then day of you can slow cook all day or if you have a pressure cooker it takes about 30 min to cook chicken from frozen (I do high for 25min but it depends how long yours takes to get up to pressure for how long the total time will be). Pressure cooking would probably be better for you so you don’t have to smell it all day since that might put you off. I hope this helps a little, sorry you’re having such a rough time. It’s hard enough for neurotypical people to cut out carbs and sugar so I can’t imagine having your craving situation on top of that. Good luck I hope you feel better!

  • Sooo the food thing I understand u honey there is a shake called Premiere protein 1 gram of sugar and 30 grams of protein. Walmart sells it in four packs my favorite is coffee and chocolate hubby like apple and oats. Keep nuts like almonds or assortment of nuts on hand and try eating 6 times a day small meals. There is this noodle clear that is in the asain market you boil it for a minute and it is like only a few calories use I to replace pasta. I also use this granola bar from Costco that is only a few grams of sugar full of nuts and it has dark chocolate 🤤. (If u find a recipe for Ramen with pork and use those noodles and a boiled egg yummmy.)

  • 3 years ago I had to go gluten free and I feel you when you say you're always hungry and shakey because nothing sustains you. I will say that the first month without carbs was rough. I always wanted sugar but that make the hunger worse. As annoying as it is protein is the way to go. It took me a long time to find high protien food I liked other than cheese and milk and chicken. I highly recommend lean cuisine frozen dinner bowls. They're so yummy and there's a good variety plus they're easy and fast to make when you're really hungry. I also started to get creative with salads and putting savory foods on salads makes lettuce more bearable.

I often ate the same food as her and some of my favs were spaghetti squash because you can put regular spaghetti sauce on it, pumpkin butternut squash soup, and for snack: red pepper hummus with carrots. You can also find lots of low sugar organic snacks at the store. I like the yogurt, and also caramel rice crackers

  • You could make that chicken salad you used to make a lot with veggies sticks or a cracker that usually helps me. I also like hummus and veggies or crackers, also yogurt, or yummy salads that have a lot of good stuff in them, you could even look at doing pasta that is made of veggies it think they sell that in store and make pasta. You have to want to eat it or it won’t be good so try and think of your favorite meals and go on Pinterest and look up healthy easy alternatives that always helps me I’m recently in the past month just starting this same diet so it’s been rough you will have good days and bad days but try and have fun with planning and being creative.

  • I had GD last year with my baby and having balanced meals on time everyday with diabetic drinks and nuts was a lifesaver. Peanuts, almonds, etc. Avocado is great also and drink lots and lots of water to keep your numbers down, track your sugar and meal times, I checked one hour after eating and drinking about 2L of water cause I’d cheat sometimes honestly but my son was born at 6lb 2oz and completely perfect. GD is tough to deal with especially when you’re craving but do your best and it’ll be over soon ( even though it’ll feel like forever it’s not) hang in there sis! You got this

  • When I was pregnant I got a cookbook that was for pregnant women. Its called the feel good pregnancy cookbook and will tell you how long it takes to make it, if the recipe is good for gestational diabetes, good for producing milk, and much more. It is a very good cook book and I definitely recommend you get it for yourself. I believe I got mine on Amazon.

  • I'm type one diabetic so it's not exactly the same but some of my low carb snacks are almonds, cheese sticks, cucumbers and carrots! Also deli meats can be good too if those are something that interest you! For low carb meals if my bloodsugar is too high for me to eat carbs (breakfast) 2 scrambled eggs and bacon, (lunch) caesar salad with cucumber and carrots, (dinner) chicken breast or beyond burger meat or turkey breast with green beans (or any other sort of veggie). If you're able to eat SOME carbs - Banza pasta is awesome. It's chickpea based but tastes like regular pasta to me and it has low glycemic index so it doesn't spike my bloodsugar. I feel full after eating it every time! I'll usually eat the banza pasta and some chicken! I also found this brand of bread called Carbonaut at target that is a low glycemic index bread that wont spike your blood sugar and has only like 10 carbs in 2 slices (usually around 20 in 2 slices of around the same size). Also almond milk has less carbs than a lot of other milks! Gatorade G-Zero has pretty much no carbs so if im craving a drink other than water when my BG is high I'll drink those! Also lots of water helps keep my numbers steady! Best of luck ❤️

  • i think it is a huge change for you with diet and considering your dietary habits, people forget that some people also dont always eat intuitively while others do. Some people find it way easier to adjust to new habits like a new diet or workout routine and dont have any emotional ties to them. Comfort eating and cravings are common for most people but I have also met plenty of people who love food but never have impulsive eating habits or emotional release from it which is so bizarre.

    • Side note: a low carb dish i would make that actually did make me feel full and less like a task plus wouldnt give me cravings for a while is an egg "tortilla"? whisk 2 eggs up and place onto a pan making sure it is thin and large, add some small strips of cooked meat/protein if you wish then cover in spinach before the egg completely cooks and flip. After the spinach is cooked, flip back over and put it on a plate. sprinkle on some chopped walnuts, season and cut the "tortilla" into strips, use the egg to wrap around avocado slices and enjoy!

  • I went through this and felt the same way about meat, eggs, etc constantly. I recommend cheese cubes, nuts, low carb pita, hummus, and turkey slices. It helps!!

  • Outer Isle cauliflower thins have been a game changer for me!! They are incredibly versatile. Burger buns, hot dog buns, mini pizzas, cheesy toast, turkey sandwiches, lasagna, tacos shells. The possibilities are endless. So many uses and so delicious! Only a few carbs per tortilla and the ingredients are very clean!
